Video Sermon- The Book of Mark- Week 2
Expository Preaching on the Book of Mark. Expository preaching means teaching verse by verse through the book…not by topic-where they choose verses to go with that topic. Expository preaching is the best way to understand scripture in context as a whole, the way it was written.
This is our Pastor… he preaches faithfully and unashamedly… something that is harder to find than it should be in this world.
Join me as we journey through the book of Mark…I have learned SO much already!
My Notes
- Mark quotes Isaiah & Malachi- both of those quotes were of Yahweh speaking of Himself. When Mark said this in his time it was a shocking declaration of the identity of who Jesus is.
- After Malachi there was 400 years of silence
- Why the wilderness? Because that is where God met with Israel. If we want Jesus and salvation we have to come out from our comforts and leave our old life behind. It signifies a new beginning- to start again.
- Why did so many go out to hear John? Some were just curious because it was new and strange…but many would have come because what John was saying was not what they were hearing from their rabis.
- Repentance begins where excuse-making, blame-shifting, and victimhood ends.
- Baptism was a new thing. The people were familiar with ceremonial washings for gentiles who wanted to become Jewish- but the Jews were not. The Jews didn’t have to be washed – they were already God’s chosen- so to tell them to be baptized went right to their Jewish pride.
